Symposium of the Scientific Committee established at the Belgian Food Safety Agency

This year the symposium contains 2 parallel sessions entitled “Preventive veterinary medicine in a changing world: utopia or reality?” (whole day) and “Boosting food safety through innovation” (afternoon).

Session animal health: Preventive veterinary medicine in a changing world: utopia or reality?

Pacheco auditorium

Finance Tower

Or via Livestream

This symposium is organised within the framework of the Belgian EU presidency. The main goal of this symposium is to focus on an ambitious and idealistic perspective of veterinary medicine in the future and on the challenges involved. An important focus lies on alternatives to animal culling during management of epidemics through application of biosecurity and vaccination (especially concerning African Swine Fever and Avian Influenza). Furthermore, recent evolutions and developments in veterinary surveillance such as non-specific diagnostic methods, intelligent use of data and risk profiling will be addressed.

Session food safety: Boosting food safety through innovation

Hotel Double Tree

Or via Livestream

This symposium is organised within the framework of the Belgian EU presidency. The main goal of this symposium is to focus on innovation in food production and food safety such as non-targeted diagnostic methods, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data integration. Furthermore, the fairly new topic of ‘food safety culture’ and its role in the creation and maintenance of a safe food environment in food producing companies will be addressed.
